One of the most important bands of the English post – punk movement was Joy Division. Joy Division was formed on 1976 in Salford, Great Manchester by Ian Curtis (vocalist and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards), Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals) and, finally, Stephen Morris (drums and percussion). They are considered as one of the most exhilarant and melancholic post punk rock bands of the late 1970’s. The band turned to New Order after Ian’s Curtis dead in 1980, who committed to suicide because of sudden epilepsy attacks while performing in stage, a disrupted marriage and personal conflicts.
