Explain

Every sentence have a subject. It informs who is doing or making something. The Subject is often the first position in a sentence.
The subject can be find with the quesion: who or what

Wer oder was?

  • Das Auto fährt.
  • Das Kind spielt.
  • Das Wasser fließt.
  • Das Essen schmeckt.

  • Wer spielt? das Kind
  • Was schmeckt? das Essen

Predicate (Satzaussage)


Every sentence have a predicate, it is always a verb. It describe what the subject is going.
In German a verb is also know as Tuwort. It describe wo is doing something.

Wer oder was tut oder macht etwas?

Tuwort: comming from tuen (machen). Was tust du?

Examples

  • Was tut/ macht das Auto? es fährt
  • Was tut/ macht das Wasser? es fließt


Two parts of a predicate

The predicate is often split into two parts. The first part is the second word and the second part is the last word.

... kommt ... an.
Endlich kommt der Zug an.
Nun geht die Reise los.
Ich bereite das Frühstück vor.
Ich stehe am Morgen auf.
